Africa’s Land and Food Masters Fellowship Programme in UK, 2014/15

African Fellowship Trust is funding Africa’s Land and Food Masters Fellowship Programme at Royal Agricultural University in UK. Ten fellowships is awarded each year which covers tuition fees, board and accommodation, airfare, incidental costs. Applicants from sub-Saharan African countries are eligible for this master’s fellowship. Electronic application should be submitted by 3rd January 2014.

Eligibility: Fellowships are offered to Africans mainly from Sub-Saharan Africa who has experience in agriculture, food or natural resource exploitation and management; an interest in land reform; and a desire to make a strategic and sustainable contribution to Africa’s development. In short, tomorrow’s innovators and leaders.
Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa (Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo DRC (Zaire), Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissaau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Reunion, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) are eligible for this masters fellowship.
Scholarship Description: This funding has provided for leadership training; the development of professional networks and supporting industrial experience, together with study opportunities on the master’s programmes in agriculture, food and rural development at the Royal Agricultural University. All of the fellows subsequently return to Africa and many are now making significant leadership contributions through their various occupations to managing change in rural development, food supply and security, farming, agribusiness, agricultural education and government.

What does it cover? Scholarships cover tuition fees, board and accommodation, flights to and from the UK and South Africa, provision for networking and a short industrial placement mainly in South Africa under the guidance of Stellenbosch University. Scholarships also cover incidental costs whilst in the UK and on placement in South Africa; however, applicants are advised that funding does not include provision for home and family costs.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is electronically. For Africa’s Land and Food Fellowship applications; you must download and complete both the application and reference forms. These should then be submitted electronically. If you do not have access to e-mail, you may complete the forms by hand and post them to the University address specified on the forms. The application form asks you to detail your academic and employment record; however, they are also interested to hear about your involvement with your community including any voluntary activities. In addition, they are particularly interested to hear about the development challenges facing your community or sector. They would like you to describe the key challenges and would like to know how you think you could make a difference when you return home after completing the Fellowship programme.
